Happy New Year friends! I hope everyone has been enjoying lots of family time, good home cooking, and naps on naps on naps. We’ve spent a many a day over the past two weeks cuddled on the couch at the homestead and I don’t regret it one bit. However, in the interest of being better for 2017 I’ve spent most of my evening off my butt and doing my best to get stuff done. We’ve got some goals for this new year that I thought would be fun to list out on the blog and then hopefully by the time 2018 comes around we can look back on all the awesome things we accomplished (or totally missed the mark on). Whichever happens first. Some are personal, some are home based, some are parenting minded, and others are spiritual. Much like the blog itself I’m not falling into any one category for this list. Instead I’ll simply outline whatever rings true for our little family and this wild and never ending adventure we’re on.
1.) Declutter/ Organize/ Be more clean- I’m working on reading through The Life-Changing magic of Tidying up after hearing several people rave about how following all the steps really did awesome things for the state of their home. I’ll be sure to report more on how it goes for us and I would love to hear reviews in the comments of anyone who has given this method a shot!
2.) Blogging- Another goal for this year is for me to figure out a blogging schedule that will really work for me and stick to it! Sometimes life gets in the way, I get behind, and then I just don’t even know where to pick back up again so I am hoping that by maybe cutting down to 3 days a week or something along those lines I can do a batter job of staying on top of things. Especially while adding another Atkinson Baby to the mix.
3.) A toddler room for Nora- We’ve got to clear out our guest room/junk room, repaint, store the current furniture, and design a fun space for Nora to play in once the baby gets here. I know things are going to change very suddenly for her once her little sister gets here so in a perfect world we would get this all done within the next two months to give her plenty of time to transition to a new room and sleeping arrangement before her world gets turned upside down.
4.) Transition Nora to her new room/bed- Nora is nothing if not adaptable. When we travel she sleeps great, when we change up her routine she’s fine, when life happens she rolls with it. However I fear that changing her bed and room in one fail swoop may be tough on our not even close to 2 year old. Hopefully she can adapt well, but in the event that this turns into a “thing” I would like to get started as soon as possible. I can’t even imagine how little I will sleep that first night that she goes down in a toddler bed. I’ll be having visions of her falling out of the bed ALL NIGHT LONG.
5.) Tweak the nursery for Baby #2- I LOVE Nora’s nursery. So in changing things up for a new baby I don’t want to start from scratch by any means. I would love to take what is already there are just make a few changes here and there. Just a few things that make it feel less like the room Nora has always slept in and more like one her little sister will be sleeping in.
6.) Be present- This one is a big one for me personally. As a mom I feel like I am CONSTANTLY worrying about something I shouldn’t be while doing something I should be giving my attention to. While I’m working I am worrying about how much I play with Nora, while I’m cleaning I’m thinking about the 20 other chores I need to do and 50 items we need from the store, while I’m playing with Nora I’m worrying about what emails I have to respond to, when I’m supposed to be hanging out with my husband I am thinking of blog topics and ideas for things I want to write about. It’s a constant battlefield in my head and this year I want to do my best to break up the fight. Whatever has my attention at that moment I want that to be the only thing in my universe. I want to be present in whatever I’m working on or whoever I am with.
7.) Figure out what running a business with two little ones looks like- I LOVE photography. I love it so incredibly much. And I love my kids, SO INCREDIBLY MUCH. I know that I can’t do things as hard and as fast as I have been doing them in the past but I am by no means ready to hang up my camera and call it quits. I need that creative outlet and the excitement of earning my own income. So my goal for this year is to figure out how to not stretch myself too thin, but to also maintain the outlet that my soul so desperately needs.
8.) Read my bible every day- I’m sure I’ll miss the mark. I probably already have but thanks to the amazing organization that is dgroup I have a group of amazing women who will keep me accountable in this goal. I FEEL BETTER when I take the time to read the word daily, I crave the intimate time with my savior, and I know it is for my good. But somedays life gets in the way and I just don’t make the time. This year I want to be really purposeful about making that time.
9.) Memorize Romans 12- Seems pretty crazy huh? Well, last year I learned 3.5 chapters of the book of James, also thanks to the accountability that I found in Dgroup. I know its possible, and I can’t wait to have even more of the word literally WRITTEN ON MY HEART.
10.) Love/serve my family better- I don’t know completely what this looks like right now, and I know that this year is going to be a tough one on me as a family member. (its hard to carry a child, give birth, still be mom to a toddler, and an awesome and thoughtful wife for your spouse) I’m going to be needing grace upon grace in most ares but I am hopeful about this goal in particular. I am looking forward to finding big and small ways each day to be better for these people who love and depend on me.
That’s it for me. I would love to hear your goals or resolutions or whatever you like to call them for this year! Send me a link to where yours are written down (ITS SO IMPORTANT TO WRITE THEM DOWN) or if you haven’t done so yet- use the comments section as a first draft for what you want to accomplish in 2017.
As always, thank YOU GUYS for taking this ride with me. I really and truly love getting to share our little world with you all.
